Vinyl Wrap Size Chart: How Much Vinyl Do You Need?
Ordering vinyl is the first place a wrap job goes wrong. Order too little and you're waiting on a second roll that may not match the first. This chart shows the rule-of-thumb roll length we plan for on common vehicles and single panels here at the shop in Tucson.
Every number is the length of a 5 ft (60 in) wide roll, the standard width for wrap film. Multiply the length by 5 to get square feet.

How to measure your own vehicle
- Measure each side from bumper to bumper, and from the bottom of the rocker to the top of the roofline.
- Measure the hood, roof and trunk or tailgate separately, then the front and rear bumpers.
- Round every measurement up to the next whole foot before you add anything up.
- Mirrors, door handles and deep recesses eat extra film, so add a little on top.
The chart covers material only. For what a wrap costs installed, see our car wrap cost guide for Tucson, or compare coverage options in partial vs full car wrap.
Frequently asked questions
How much vinyl do I need to wrap a sedan?
Plan on a 5 ft × 59 ft roll, about 295 square feet of film. That covers the whole car with room for trimming and wrapping the edges.
How much vinyl does it take to wrap a truck or SUV?
A pickup usually needs about 5 ft × 65 ft. A small SUV needs around 5 ft × 60 ft, and a large SUV like a Tahoe or Suburban needs about 5 ft × 70 ft.
Why do you need more vinyl than the car's surface area?
Bumpers, mirrors and deep body lines take extra film to stretch and tuck, and every panel needs a few inches past the edge to wrap cleanly. A little extra also covers a mistake without reordering.
How much vinyl do I need for just a hood or roof?
A hood or roof usually takes about 5 ft × 10 ft. A single door or fender takes about 5 ft × 5 ft.
Does the vinyl size tell me the price of a wrap?
No. The chart is about material. Price depends on the vehicle, the film you pick and how much of it we cover. See our car wrap cost guide or get a free quote.
